Why I’m starting this blog
Dear reader,
Hi, I am Ivan Mihajlovic. If we already know each other, great, I’m so glad you’re here. And if we’re meeting for the first time, welcome. I’ve wondered much of my life how the spaces we live in shape who we become. With a background in architecture and a deep curiosity about personal growth, I’ve come to see that our homes are more than walls and furniture, they’re reflections of our inner world. This blog is my way of bringing those two parts of life together: design and self-discovery.
For the longest time, I felt lost. I’m sure many people can relate to that feeling in their own way. About five years ago, I picked up everything and moved, creating an opportunity to reinvent myself. I stopped drinking alcohol and using any substances, choosing instead to focus on myself with a clear mind.
At first, it wasn’t easy. I experienced panic attacks and anxiety, and things got harder before they got better. But a good friend and mentor once told me something that stuck with me: “If you want something to change, you have to change something.” I repeated those words to myself every time life felt heavy.
Since that move and that moment, I’ve slowly built a life that feels more like me. I now have a family of my own, and with every passing year, my vision for a healthier, happier lifestyle grows clearer.
I’ve worked as an architect but haven’t yet earned my license. For a while, I had time, resources, and a creative outlet, but something inside me held back. Deep down, I knew my path was about more than climbing a professional ladder. I loved woodworking and cooking and imagined leaving architecture for one of those passions, but something still didn’t feel right.
Even as I designed furniture and drafted recipes, I found myself sketching houses, floor plans, sections, elevations again and again. I became fascinated by the idea of a custom home. But eventually, I realized that even a beautifully designed house is still a material thing. The real change wasn’t in the walls or windows, it was in me.
That same saying echoed again: “If you want something to change, you have to change something.”
To me, that meant this: if I wanted a custom home, I also needed a custom lifestyle. I began to understand that physical health, mental health, sleep, and the way we live day to day all shape the spaces we create and how those spaces, in turn, shape us.
This blog is my way of learning, exploring, and sharing that journey with you. My hope is that by documenting my own process, I can help others create homes and habits that support a healthier, more balanced life.
Maybe the house isn’t the first step, it’s the reflection of everything that comes before it. The seed is the lifestyle: the choices we make, the food we eat, how we rest, and how we treat ourselves and others. When we nurture that, the rest takes shape naturally.
